  1. Tell us the history of your company and under what premise it was created

 

The Dhaka Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd was registered under Co-Operative act in 1973 by the department of Co-Operatives under the Ministry of Co-Operatives. One main point in the article of association was that this institution can do kinds of banking business for the benefit of the society and its members.

 

  1. What is the main mission of your company?

 

The main mission is to help small businesses grow by providing funds without collateral.

 

  1. How do you think your company has managed to adapt to current changes in the world and what innovations have you managed to implement?

 

From the beginning, my team, mainly brothers and sisters and wife, we managed the organization since 2002. The honesty of purpose and good governance are core issues considering the worldwide financial crisis.

 

We stuck to our aim with utmost sincerity commitment to educating all employees with ever-growing members.

 

We ensure transparency, honesty, flexibility in our policies; we ensured women empowerment, a safe office environment, equal status, inclusive of salary, competitive cost of fund and lending rate with excess to loan on-demand recovery by our own staff.

 

Clients do not come to us we go to them for all purposes.

 

  1. What do you think has been the main contribution of your company to the economy / market of your country?

 

We define poverty in this part of the world by lending the clients were effectively educated to submit assets, liabilities after each loan, thus improving their social-economic status including children education, looking after older parents

 

  1. How do you value the experience of participating in a hybrid awards ceremony, which combines the virtual with the face-to-face experience, what advantages do you highlight?

    1. HOW   HAS   YOUR   COMPANY   OVERCOME   THE   CURRENT   SANITARY   CRISIS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE WORLD IN ORDER TO BE RESILIENT?

     

    Incidentally, the Insurance Industry has not done badly with the advent of COVID-19 because peradventure, Insurance Cover continues to be provided during the currency of this Epidemic.

     

    In simple terms, Standard Insurance Consultants Limited has taken the opportunity to put together some forms of Insurance Packages such as Policy Extension for COVID19 for Individuals, Corporate Organizations, and others. For example, Medical and Personal Accident Insurance have been extended to cover Covid-19 in case of an insured event. This has resulted in additional premium payments. In addition, whatever the situation is, the Insurance programme is acting as armor against faith and in reality, enormous Investments must continue to be protected and Insurance Cover acts as a SECURITY to back up any Financial Disaster during this period.

     

    In effect, Financial Houses, Shipping, Aviation, Industries, and many others continue to maintain their Insurance requirements as, without Insurance cover, the Investments thereon can be jeopardized.

     

    In consequence of the foregoing, in order to be resilient, SICL has taken the opportunity of thinking outside the box to meet the present challenges of the Covid –

    19 epidemic around the Globe.

     

     

    1. HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AT THE WORLDCOB VIRTUAL SUMMIT AND WHAT CAN YOU TAKE FROM THAT?

     

     

    First and foremost, I have to CONGRATULATE WORLDCOB Team once again for taking proactive actions in the light of the prevailing circumstances with regards to the Covid-

    19 epidemic.

     

    The WORLDCOB Team I believe has wisely put into consideration the huge challenges before them and has been able to put their heads together as a Team in providing a solution to ensure that the annual membership activities and others are not disintegrated. This I think is a huge success, and as I have said many times, the Management Team and the entire Staff of WORLDCOB should be applauded.  This swift action has metamorphosed into a successful membership experience.

     

    Therefore, I can take it from this that the WORLDCOB Team is very proactive and innovative in their teamwork.

     

    In conclusion, my experience at the WORLDCOB Virtual Summit was excellent and what I have garnered therefrom is that successful teamwork and taking proactive measures in any situation is the bedrock of successful business undertakings.

     

     

    1. HOW IS YOUR COMPANY PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE?

     

    As I said earlier, SICL has been providing Professional Insurance/Reinsurance Solutions to the Insuring Public both to the private and public sectors of our economy over the last 40 years, and we have successfully conducted our business based on the foundation of Trust, Credibility, and Integrity within and outside Nigeria.

     

    Over time, we realized that DIGITALIZATION of our business operations is very key particularly as technology is advancing on a daily basis. I am happy to say that many years back, I had this in mind, and from that time, we have embarked on the digitalization process of our operations generally. At the moment, we have reached an advanced stage in this digitalization programme and our vision is to enable the

    Insuring public to purchase/arrange all forms of Insurance products online seamlessly

    and also to provide a digital Claims Administration process in order to ensure a faster claims settlement to the benefits of the Insuring public. This we believe will make it

     

    easier for the Insuring public to arrange Insurance covers by bringing all necessary insurance processes to their fingertips.

     

    To this end, we are of the strong belief that our digitalization process will be the best for our Company and the Insurance Industry. Therefore the future looks very promising and bright for Standard Insurance Consultants Limited.

     

     

    1. WHAT HAS BEEN THE MAIN CONTRIBUTION OF YOUR COMPANY TO THE MARKET IN YOUR COUNTRY?

     

    First and foremost, our Country Nigeria is a blessed nation such that God in His INFINITE MERCY has endowed us with both Natural and Human resources.

     

    To answer your question, my Company has contributed immensely in providing basic

    Insurance advice in the area of Medical Insurance including but not limited to Covid-

    19 and other related Insurance Covers. In addition, we have tried as much as possible to advocate the Insurance Companies to provide enough funds through the Banks for the teeming population in the area of both Agricultural Insurance placement and the provision of funds for Housing Programmes.

     

    Therefore, we are trying all our possible best to see that the Insurance Industry in Nigeria is contributing positively to the GDP of the Federal Republic of Nigeria so that the Country can move forward economically.

     

    1.  WHAT INNOVATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE IN YOUR COMPANY IN THE LAST YEAR?

     

    As I mentioned earlier, the big innovative programme we have embarked upon over the last year is the full digitalization of our Business Operations. Therefore, SICL has invested enormously in the DIGITALIZATION of her Business Operations.

     

    For example, many years back, business people are used to physical meetings from one country to the other and expending humongous funds on air travel, hotel accommodation, etc. With the advent of technological advancement, all these have been minimized as meetings are being held using various e-meeting applications around the world.

     

    With that in mind, SICL right now is accelerating the process of finalizing our digitalization programme whereby people can purchase Insurance Covers, pay premiums, and process claims online. This we believe will add value and benefits to the Insuring public and the Insurance Industry in Nigeria.

     

    1. WOULD YOU SHARE SOME OF YOUR METHODS AS A LEADER THAT HELPS YOU TO LEAD YOUR COMPANY?

     

    This is a very interesting question and basically, I have put in place EXCELLENT PROFESSIONAL SERVICES to the majority of our Clientele, both Locally and the International scene. The most important strategy I have put in place till now is to ensure that our teeming Clientele has TRUST and CONFIDENCE in our Organization and our ability to deliver our promises. That is why at Standard Insurance Consultants Limited, we ensure that Insurances are placed with Financially Secured Risks Carriers that will not  defect in case of an insured  event.  That  is to say, anybody  arranging their Insurance Cover through us will receive their benefits in terms of Claims settlement as and when the insured incident occurs.

     

    In addition, we go out of our way through our Claims Administration Department to negotiate with Underwriters “ex-gratia” payment in case there is a hitch from the end of our mutual Client in adhering strictly to the terms and conditions of the policy for which the Claim may not be admissible.

     

    I also put in place a mechanism whereby Qualified Professionals are engaged by the Company and this strategy has assisted us tremendously because I strongly believe that putting Professionalism as a top priority is a key function in achieving a successful Business Operation.

     

    Sometimes, I am accused of being “high-handed” in this area but if you want to be successful in business, you must be proactive and disciplined. For me, I always like to see that the RIGHT thing is done at all times. Therefore, when I say “A”, I ensure that “my A is A”. I also make sure that we work as a TEAM whereby I am the Chief Servant Officer of the Organization and this has translated into the Successes of Standard Insurance Consultants Limited over the last 40 years.

     

    Flowing from the above, I put RECOGNITION and TEAMWORK as a yardstick in my leadership approach, and over the years these have assisted me to lead the Standard Insurance Consultants Limited up till now and I am sure this will continue in the future.

In terms of tea value addition, it sources fresh teas from KTDA owned factories and pack through its multi-million modern packaging equipment which addresses the desire to have teas blended and packed in a cleaner and healthy environment. The Division also trades teas through the KTDA Dubai Multi-Commodity Centre (DMCC) based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; the Dubai Centre serves Tea customers from the Middle East countries, Russia and Kazakhstan.

    ▪ Chai Trading Co. Ltd is certified in both ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System which guarantees a system based approach in her operations and hygiene conditions in tea handling.

    ▪ Turnover has grown to USD 0.1930 billion.

    ▪ Tea purchased at the Mombasa Tea auction has grown to 36,100,137 kilograms.

    ▪ Among the top ten buyers at the Mombasa Tea Auction.

    ▪ Warehousing space has increased to 988,600 sq.

    ▪ Installed tea racking facility  in the warehouse making it the only warehouse with such a facility in the region.

    ▪ Installed a modern tea blending and packing machine.

    ▪ Awarded by the Export Agency in Kenya as the best exporting company in adoption of ICT & E- Commerce and second runners-up in the overall category in exports in Kenya during the Kenya Exporter of The Year Awards 2019.

     

    5.What are the goals to follow by your company in the upcoming years?

     

    For the Freight Division, it is to be at epicenter of the supply chain and this will be done by operating a Logistics Centre that is currently being put up at the Kenyan capital city Nairobi; this Logistics Centre will take advantage of its proximity to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station  to maximize on the opportunities provided by multi modal movement of cargo from all over the world to the Kenyan capital and beyond.

     

    For the Trading Division, it is to continue cementing the position of the company as the preferred supplier of Black CTC tea in the key global markets as well as source for new markets for other varieties of teas like the orthodox tea. On value addition there will be increased activities in sourcing for markets for blended teas.

    The Sugar Association of Guatemala has obtained the WORLDCOB-CSR certification in Corporate Social Responsibility for its commitment to sustainability in business practices.

     

    Regarding this new achievement, Luis Miguel Paiz, shared his impressions in an interview on what it means for the company including the goals of the organization for the next few years, and what role CSR plays in that mission.

     

    1. Brief description of the company

    The Sugar Association of Guatemala (Asazgua) is a trade union organization composed of 11 sugar-producing mills in Guatemala and three support entities specialized in social development, research, and export: Fundazúcar, Cengicaña and Expogranel, respectively.

    Trade union policies have been created that establish protocols and standards of operation of producers in areas such as environmental management, transport, and working conditions among others. Asazgua is the entity that monitors compliance with said policies and accompanies sugar-producing mills in the process of implementing them.

    Founded in 1957, Asazgua is the cornerstone that has driven the development and growth of Guatemala’s Sugar Agroindustry.

    1. What are the goals of your company?

    As the Sugar Agroindustry of Guatemala, we identify opportunities and take on challenges towards 2025 with the aim of continuing our role as an economic engine for Guatemala and promoter of social development, through cultivation practices and sustainable processing methods.

    At Guatemala’s Sugar Association, we believe in sustainability and therefore our activities are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

    In 2015, we set out a strategic plan to 2025 for the development, growth, and sustainability of the Sugar Agroindustry through which we guide all our activities.

    We are a trade union organization that promotes unity, growth, and sustainability in the sugar sector, as well as the development of Guatemala. Through Asazgua, sugar producers have created a research center, a foundation to promote social development, and a shipping export terminal, which makes the sector more competitive in international markets.

    1. What aspect do you think CSR improves in companies?

    CRS primarily impacts the performance of employees by integrating technical skills with a conduct attached to ethics and legal standards. Therefore, the company is oriented to the results from a responsible productivity approach, a basic element for sustainability.

    1. What value have you recognized in the process of obtaining the WorldCOB-CSR:2011.3 certificate?

    It allowed us to execute a materiality analysis, as well as the documentary gaps that support our achievements.

    1. What are the benefits of obtaining a CSR certification?

    It is always important to have an external vision benefiting from its perspective and rigor, which can certify compliance—in practice—with what it implies. In other words, by being socially responsible from a business activity standpoint.

    To take advantage of this mutually beneficial exercise, so that they can communicate with legitimacy that they are companies operating in a responsible manner within society.
